Sandhills Annual Rural Heritage Food Tasting
Our Sandhills Annual Rural Heritage Food Tasting event occurs in September, at the end the market season - a perfect time to enjoy mouth-watering regional cuisine in an outdoor setting where community fellowship fuels the celebration. The annual food tasting serves as a fundraising event for Sandhills Family Heritage Association.
In 2014, the inaugural annual food testing unfolded under the shelter at the Sandhills Farmers' Market, located on the site of our Historic Civic Center Building in Spring Lake, NC. Sandhills Family Heritage Association continues to offer this wonderful opportunity for the community to explore and share an important part of its heritage.
Attendees from the local community and from cities and towns throughout North Carolina come to enjoy fresh market produce and meats prepared the "good ole' Southern way."
The Annual Rural Heritage Food Tasting is the perfect event to welcome autumn and, as people did long ago, enjoy the bounty of the land outdoors with family and friends.
The best cooks in our community volunteer their time, knowledge and skills to prepare a wide array of foods for sampling - vegetables, side dishes, meats, deserts and beverages.
This culinary celebration is a chance for remembrance and celebration of the foods and recipes enjoyed throughout the Sandhills region and handed down through generations of African-American families.
Sprinkle in entertainment to explore African-American culture and history through music, dance, historic reenactments, storytelling and crafts for a family-friendly event of food and fun.
Check this space or the SFHA newsletter for the date and time of the next Sandhills Annual Rural Heritage Food Tasting. The SFHA Board, Staff and Volunteers hope to see you at the next food tasting.
