Sankofa Youth

Sankofa Youth is a youth-led enrichment program that provides opportunities for youth to learn, lead and grow. Youth are assisted by an adult program coordinator and two adult youth leaders.

Sankofa Youth activities focus on civic education, character development, life-skills enrichment and development of leadership skills. Youth members learn about the history and heritage of African-Americans in the N.C. Sandhills, participate in community service activities and serve as SFHA ambassadors and volunteers.

Through a wide range of activities, youth participants develop strengths in and gain benefit from the following areas:

  • character development

  • building leadership skills

  • confidence and empowerment

  • civic engagement

  • community service

  • health and wellness

  • mastering community resources

  • goal-setting and planning for the future

SFHA has a long history of youth programs,  such as Farming Apprenticeships, ,Young Entrepreneurs and Young Historians. Sankofa Youth continues this tradition by engaging youth in our work and preparing them to assume leadership positions in their communities.

Our Healthwise and Sankofa Youth Programs have decided to collaborate on upcoming events and meetings which will focus on nutrition and health/active living information.
